what? there are other etsy teams? :)

this is the first in a fun series of interviews with other teams. i bet we can learn a lot from each other, and a little cross-team awareness couldn't hurt, right?

today's team? Etsy Alberta! They are a new location-based team in Canada "instigated" by Katelynjane. Get to know them here.

so, what else is coming soon?

We are such a busy team that we are already starting to outgrow our blog! We will soon have a new home:
clevelandhandmade.com.
The new site will be our team's homepage with links to our online gallery, team member profiles, community art projects, a calendar to keep track of our many activities, a workshop proposal form, zine-style articles written by the team and lots more!
It will also be a great place for people to "shop Cleveland" :)
This is very exciting! Thanks to everyone for your enthusiam and amazing ideas!
We need volunteers to design a logo for our new site and also one for our gallery. Then we can put it to a team vote to choose :) Contact smashing for more details.

Check out the gallery while you are here, it was recently updated with pieces from our newest members :)
And don't forget, our scavenger hunt contest "Show Cleveland Some Love!" begins soon, check back for details! A lucky winner will get to shop for free in one or more of our stores :)
Contact Virtuallori to become a participating shop.

copper day!!

Everyone knows there are a lot of smart people at Case. To further prove the school's reputation, the Mandel School of Applied Social Sciences has chosen to show the work of Chris Zielski of Copper Leaf Studios :)

The show runs from September 15th through November 15th, 2007.
The Mandel School is located on the corner of Ford and Bellflower, in University Circle,
(across the street from the Peter B. Lewis building, designed by Frank Gehry.)

Chris's work is displayed on the first and second floor of the Mandel School. There may also a group of Cuban Arpilleras on display in the library.

You can see Chris's work Mondays-Thursdays from 8am - 7pm and Fridays 8am - 6pm.
The school will also be open on the following weekends: October 6th & 7th, October 13th & 14th, November 3rd & 4th, and November 10th & 11th.

Let's celebrate Copper day! We'll meet to see her work and have lunch on October 7th, exact time to be announced. Post here if you'd like to go, too :)

make your own glass beads! Thursday 9/27/07

you may have already seen the drool-worthy lampwork beads in Renee Suich's etsy shop. but just wait until you see her making them! mesmerizing :)

Renee will teach you how to do it too!
her next lampwork beadmaking class at D'Nora's Art Studio in North Ridgeville is on Thursday, September 27th from 6:30-9pm.
no experience required, this is a beginning class.

please be warned, lampworking is very addictive! rest assured,
Renee gives a discount on your next class in case one just isn't enough :)

Destash Party Saturday 9/29!

What the heck is a destash party?
A get-together to sell, trade, and/or give away your excess, no-longer-needed, and/or no-longer-loved supplies (beads, fabric, ephemera, whatever crafty stuff you have) and acquire some new-to-you supplies from your Clevey teammates.

When and where is it?
Saturday, September 29, 1 p.m. until whenever at Lori's house in Westlake. Detailed directions will be sent when you RSVP. It's a 25-minute drive via I-90 from downtown Cleveland, less than 10 minutes from both the Great Northern Mall exit off I-480 and the Lorain Road exit off the Ohio Turnpike.

How does it work?
Everyone will get a space to put out their stuff for other people to "shop." It's totally up to you if you want to sell it or trade it, or both. It's okay to have "freebies," too — your trash could be someone else's treasure.

Do I have to bring stuff to destash, or can I just come and shop and/or simply socialize?
You don't have to bring stuff to destash; you can certainly come just to shop or hang out.

What should I bring? Other than my destash stuff, that is...
I'll provide soft drinks and munchies. Please feel free to bring wine or beer if you would like.

You people chat a lot and seem to know each other, but I haven't met any of you and I'm a little hesitant to dive in. Is there an initiation ritual? Should I be scared?
No way! Most of us didn't know anyone else on the team until just a few months ago. Some of us are just naturally gregarious. We're eager to welcome newcomers to our team, and we promise you won't feel left out.

Okay, I'm in. How do I RSVP?
E-mail lori@virtuallori.com by 7 p.m. Thursday 9/27 to say you're coming so I can plan for enough food and table space.

important! team chat room meeting 9-13-07

alrighty! time for the first team etsy cleveland chat room meeting!
we'll talk about the details of an upcoming (and maybe ongoing) team promo contest and team trunk show. and anything else you want to bring up! so please bring your ideas! :)

the meeting will be at 8:00pm on Thursday, September 13th. just go to the main chat room area on etsy and look for the room titled "cleveland team meeting"

if you aren't familiar with the chat rooms in etsy click here for a (nicely illustrated) tutorial from etsian duet.
