If you knit or crochet, bring a project and be ready to help new knitters and crocheters.
If you want to learn, bring a size 8 or 9 knitting needle or a size J crochet hook and we'll make sure there's yarn. If you are already ready to do a project, I can help find a knitting pattern online, just let me know. I'm sure the crocheters will help with crochet patterns. If you need my address, convo me.
We can always hit Tommy's for dinner!"

Angels to help the Preeclampsia Foundation

You have probably seen the gorgeous angels in Melissa Muir's Etsy shop KCJewelbox, but you might not know that they are made in loving memory of her daughter Kelsi, who was born extremely premature at 24 weeks old due to preeclampsia, weighing only 13 oz. Kelsi only lived for a few days, but her memory lives on and has helped spread awareness of the dangerous pregnancy disorder preeclampsia.

From December 1st 2007 through January 1st, 2008, Melissa will be donating 50% of the price of all the angel jewelry sold in her shop to the Preeclampsia Foundation.

Each angel is handmade and Kelsi's Closet Jewelbox has many designs to choose from, most can be customized to include birthstones or angel stones. The angels may be worn as pendants or an optional pin back can be added for wearing as a brooch. Some angels may also be used as small ornaments.

To ensure delivery by Christmas, please place orders by December 11, 2007. Prices range from $20 to $75.

Fire-Cider Clevey Party, Saturday December 8th

The first annual Fire-Cider Clevey Party will be at Smashing's house in beautiful Fairview Park
at 8pm Saturday, December 8th.

There will be a fire, some cider, other refreshments, a story telling contest and a Cookie Swap. (there is also a rumor of Valerie Tyler door prize earrings, YUM!)

Limited accomodations are available for anyone too "tired" to drive home (as long as you don't mind bunking in a play room on a temporary bed) :)

How to participate in the Cookie Swap (not mandatory, but definitely fun!) per LazyMama:

"Bake one batch of your favorite holiday cookie or homemade candy. Bring them to the party, along with a separate container large enough to fit a couple dozen extra cookies. At the party we'll put everyone's treats out, and as we leave, everyone takes a few of each kind of cookie. That way we all have a selection of treats to share with guests (or to eat ourselves) and we only had to bake one batch of cookies."

This November 10th The Bay Homes for the Holidays Holiday Marketplace will take it's place in history as the largest public gathering of vending Cleveys.

Arts Collinwood volunteer day

Just got the following from George Nemeth of Brewed Fresh Daily, who is on the board at Arts Collinwood. I'm doing a show that day, otherwise I'd figure out a way to be there:

Arts Collinwood is ready to complete its community arts center!

Thanks to generous gifts from the Thomas White and Abington Foundations, renovation plans are moving ahead on our 2,000 square foot classroom, rehearsal and performance space. Volunteers are needed to help complete demolition work, as well as for finish jobs, light construction, painting and more. If you have skills to contribute or materials to donate, please call us.

Join the work party Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 10-11, between noon and 5:00pm. We’ll provide the pizza and refreshments if you bring the will to work. All efforts benefit the community arts programs of Arts Collinwood. For information, call: 216-692-9500. Work takes place at the Arts Collinwood Building, 15605 Waterloo Rd (just one block north of I-90 at the corner of Waterloo and E. 156th St.) Interested in seeing our progress? Thanks NaturalAbstracts, for letting us know that The Friends of the Lakewood Commission on Aging is hosting Sip into the Holidays an Auction to benefit the Lakewood Division on Aging at Local Girl Gallery on Saturday, December 1st.

They are looking for artists and craftspeople to decorate and donate wine or martini glasses. Donated glasses should be in pairs by theme and may be functional or not when they are done. "As wild as you want! You have total artistic freedom." says Ruth Koenigsmark, co-ordinator for the event.

It would be great to donate a couple of sets from ClevelandHandmade. If you are interested in donating a decorated pair of wine glasses as a group, please contact smashing by October 26th. Please have glasses ready by November 23rd.

Wednesday's etsy team workshop had some exciting announcements. Friday will launch two new endeavors to get the word out about etsy and the handmade way of life.

1) a new and improved Teams page, with another even better version coming soon.
2) a multi-media, multi-sponsor website that will ask people to sign a pledge saying they will buy and ask for handmade gifts this holiday season.
